About Us

Kids Safe Haven is committed to creating a safe, nurturing, and supportive home where children and young people can heal, grow, and thrive through compassionate, relationship-focused care.

The Nurture, Protect, Thrive Framework

These principles underpin the ethos of Kids Safe Haven and guide the culture, practice, and environment of the home. They shape the way staff work with children, the design of the living environment, and the approach taken to supporting each young person’s emotional development, safety, and long-term outcomes.

Kids Safe Haven is a therapeutically led residential children’s home supporting boys and girls aged 8–17 at the point of admission who may present with emotional and behavioural difficulties. Many children who come into residential care have experienced trauma, instability, disrupted attachments, exploitation risks or repeated placement breakdowns.

The Nurture, Protect, and Thrive framework ensures that every aspect of care within the home focuses on helping children rebuild trust, develop resilience, and move forward positively in their lives.

Nurture

Children who have experienced trauma and instability need consistent care, understanding and nurturing relationships in order to feel safe and emotionally secure. Kids Safe Haven provides compassionate, relationship-based residential care that supports emotional healing, and promotes a strong sense of belonging. The home environment is designed to be calm, structured and welcoming, helping children to experience stability and predictability that may have been absent in their previous experiences.

Staff build trusting relationships with children through empathy, patience, consistency, and meaningful engagement. Time is taken to understand each child’s background, emotional needs and individual experiences, allowing staff to respond in ways that are supportive, therapeutic and respectful.

The nurturing environment within Kids Safe Haven is reinforced through the daily routines of the home. Shared meals, structured activities, and regular key work sessions help children to feel included and valued. Staff prioritise quality time with children, supporting them to express their feelings, build self-awareness, and develop healthier ways of managing emotions.

A distinctive feature of the home is the presence of a therapeutic support dog, which forms part of the nurturing and therapeutic environment. Animal-assisted interaction has been shown to support emotional regulation, reduce anxiety, and help children develop trust and connection in a safe and supportive way. For children who may find it difficult to engage directly with adults, interaction with animals can provide a calming and reassuring experience, helping them to build confidence in relationships and communication.

Through nurturing care, children are supported to develop improved emotional regulation, stronger interpersonal relationships and a growing sense of self-worth. Over time, this helps children to feel more secure within themselves and more confident in their interactions with others.

Protect

Ensuring children are safeguarded and protected from harm, exploitation, and instability is central to the work of Kids Safe Haven. Safeguarding is embedded within every aspect of the home. Children are supported within a secure, structured, and well-supervised environment where their safety and wellbeing remain the highest priority. Staff maintain a clear understanding of each child’s risks and vulnerabilities and work proactively to reduce potential harm.

The home operates robust safeguarding procedures and risk management strategies. These include clear staff guidance, structured supervision, regular risk assessments, and close monitoring of behaviours and external influences that may place children at risk. Staff are trained to recognise indicators of exploitation, emotional distress, and safeguarding concerns. Through careful observation and proactive support, staff aim to identify risks early, and intervene in a way that protects children while supporting their emotional wellbeing.

Strong partnerships with local authorities, social workers, safeguarding professionals, and other agencies ensure that concerns are addressed quickly and collaboratively. Communication between professionals is prioritised to ensure that safeguarding plans remain current and responsive to each child’s changing needs.

Within the home, clear boundaries, and expectations help children to understand safe behaviour and develop a sense of personal responsibility. Consistency in staff responses helps create a stable environment where children feel secure, protected and respected. By maintaining strong safeguarding oversight and consistent boundaries, Kids Safe Haven provides an environment where children feel safe, protected, and supported to rebuild trust in the adults around them.

Thrive

Every child deserves the opportunity to grow, develop and succeed regardless of the challenges they may have faced in their early lives. Kids Safe Haven focuses on helping children rebuild confidence, develop resilience and rediscover their strengths. The home encourages children to recognise their abilities and to see themselves as capable of achieving positive outcomes.

Staff work closely with each child to identify personal goals and areas of interest. Through encouragement, structured routines and positive role modelling, children are supported to make progress in areas such as emotional development, education, social skills, and independence. Education is recognised as an important pathway to opportunity. Staff work in partnership with schools, virtual schools, and alternative education providers to support engagement in learning. Where children may have experienced difficulties in education previously, the team works patiently to rebuild confidence and establish positive routines around learning.

Children are also encouraged to explore hobbies, interests, and creative activities that help build confidence and self-expression. Participation in sports, arts, community activities, and life skills programmes helps young people develop a stronger sense of identity and achievement. The development of independence skills is also an important aspect of helping children thrive. Staff support young people in learning practical life skills such as cooking, budgeting, organisation, and decision-making, preparing them gradually for greater independence in the future.

By recognising and celebrating each child’s progress, no matter how small, Kids Safe Haven helps young people build confidence in their abilities and develop a more positive outlook on their future. Through nurturing relationships, strong safeguarding, and opportunities for growth, the home provides an environment where children are supported not only to feel safe, but to truly thrive.
